The launch was a great success! The children that took part were so inquisitive and lovely – the interest the children had in talking about books was incredible, but what was also really nice to hear was about how they enjoyed school.
It was nice to explain to the children how the pictures in Four Enchanted Tales meant something to me. The cover is important too as it was based on a children’s book cover that was important to me. One that my mum would read to me when I was very young. It’s great that little ones read so early; there were kids at the launch as young as 4. I think we need to remember that kids still love that going to bed-time story. I did it with both our girls as it was something that was special to me.
Everyone who came bought one of my books. Many even bought both, which was sweet as they thought of their younger brother or sister. The children loved when I told them the meaning behind the pictures in the books. For example in Molly’s Mouse with the snails story line having coloured shells; this was from when our daughter was little. She loved to collect the snails off of the rockery and race them-so we painted the shells different colours. The rockery in the story was a feature in our garden-the same as Molly’s play house.
Waterstones has asked me to do more events, which is a big complement! – To all those parents who bought their children or even their friends as a birthday treat, thank you, the children behaved so well and they had beautiful manners. I wished I had taken more photos during the reading and the question game! Time went so fast! If any of your children want another book signing – please feel free to go into the Nottingham Waterstones and ask for Amy on the children’s book floor. Leave it with them and I would be more than happy to come in and sign them for you. I understand some children had to leave because of other plans and some children who were coming couldn’t as they were away for Mothering Sunday.
There were some children that mentioned bullying – just remember be strong, keep your close friends who are positive around you, they’re the best friends to have. Remember kids, those who often complain and talk about others, say negative things about people all the time even their close friends and family. They’re not happy within themselves, but make out they are. There is always a reason behind it. Even in adult hood it can be amusing – really remember there are two sides to every story.
It can always feel funny when those who were never friends with you before, suddenly start to act nice and start talking to you more. A lot of the time it’s because they have been found out, but they won’t tell you that, but also they have been dropped, just wanting someone to cling onto. Be smart and think positively, be yourself and when someone starts being unkind about someone else, walk away, because eventually that person may start talking about you.
I would like to finish off with a personal message to each and every one of those children, who came in on Saturday morning. Keep up the good school work, the reading and please do not lose those manners! They matter through life I promise.
